Description:
Bee Information | |
Bees for sale? | |
|
|
What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock?
I mostly select for honey production. Secondary factors include survivability, mite levels, temperament, but in general a quality honey crop indicates that these other factors are well in hand so I tend to focus on honey production since it's easily measurable and quantifiable.
Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they?
Nearly all of my bees are descended from an initial "Michigan Survivor" colony, however I also have a couple of queens with Purdue genetics.
Where do the bees overwinter?
Dexter, MI. | |
Do the bees spend the whole season in your home location? If not, where do they go and when, and for how long?
My bees are non-migratory. Unless they are split out and moved to a different yard, the generally stay in the same location year round.
Do you monitor for varroa mites? How and how often?
I perform an alcohol wash on every colony in the spring and then every 1-2 months thereafter throughout the season.
Have your hives been inspected by an inspector?
No | |
Anything else? | |
I'm not producing nucs as much as selling off extra colonies at the end of the winter. Willing to sell nucs with the overwintered queen or a made up nuc, split out from the overwintered colony, with a first year queen. Please contact me for availability. |
Number of queens interested in exchanging at any one time (are you looking for 40, or just a couple)?
3-5 | |
What type of queens do you have available to trade?
Depending on where we are in the season, I would trade 1st year overwintered queens, newly mated queens, virgins or cells. |
