What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock?
We maintain Instrumentally Inseminate Breeder Queens from reputable queen breeders or genetically superior open-mated queens that are kept for the express purpose of generating new queen bees for distribution within the Commonwealth of Virginia to enhance the gene pool of our local stock. We sell direct daughters (F1) of these Inseminated Breeder Queens and F2 queens of the open mated specialty queens. We recognize that there are multiple breeding programs happening through out the USA and we strive to add as much genetic diversity from these programs to our individual lines whenever possible.
Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they?
We purchase Breeder queens from multiple queen breeders, including Jason Bragg of New River Honeybees, Cory Stevens of Stevens Bee Co, Michael Palmer of French Hill Apiaries, John Harbo , and VP Queens. We currently offer Canadian Denmark Buckfast bees, Carniolans, Pol-line and VSH Italian bees along with our robust local blend.
