What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock?
All of our breeders go through at least two winters over 150 lbs. and make over 100 lbs. in production. They must be below mite threshold. We favor bees that are dark in color, hygienic and calm on the comb. This year we have used UBO to influence our selection. |
|
Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they?
They come from known lines of Carniolan stock from Michael Palmer (French Hill Apiaries), Strachan, Honey Run, Pope Canyon, and Caucasian from Old Soul.
Where do the bees overwinter?
In Northern Vermont and Northern New York.
Do the bees spend the whole season in your home location? If not, where do they go and when, and for how long?
Yes we are non-migratory. They stay in the same location throughout their lives.
Do you monitor for varroa mites? How and how often?
Yes we test at least breeders once a month.
Have your hives been inspected by an inspector?
Yes. |
