  • Queens
  • Nucs
  • Other
If "Other" please explain
2, 3, and 4 pound packages. New York bees are sold out for 2018. Queens are available.
What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock?
All potential breeding stock mates and survives in upstate New York for at least 2 winters with no treatments for mites and minimal feeding. The hives are assessed for health, gentleness, and honey stores. We also keep data on cell acceptance/cell and mating percentage. Our approach follows the trends of several lines of bees and culls lines to introduce new ones. This is an anti-breeding program.
Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they?
We graft from at least 6 lines and "guest" cellraiser weekly. They are a mix of Russian, VSH Carniolan, Buckfast, and Caucasian.
Where do the bees overwinter?
We keep stationary hives in both upstate New York and southern Florida. We move New York breeding stock queens south to produce both daughter queens and drones.
Do the bees spend the whole season in the North? If not, where do they go and when, and for how long?
Hives are currently stationary all year. Queens are moved north to south and shipped nationwide.
Do you monitor for varroa mites? How and how often?
We visually inspect for disease- snotty brood, shriveled wings, and we do occasional brood uncapping.
Have your hives been inspected by an inspector?
Yes, Both Florida and New York. Our Florida queens are certified European by FDACS.
Anything else?
We will ship queens as early as weather permits. From June 2018 on, our summer queens will be mated in the Adirondacks, where we are launching a bee school demoing queen catching, cellraiser methods, nuc schedules, and general upheaval. Bee in touch.
