Bee Information
Bees for sale?
  • Queens
  • Nucs
What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock?
Gentle and easy to work, honey production, hygienic.
Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they?
Original hives were Carniolan that I acquired from a Michigan beek eight years ago and I call them my OGs, but I would say that my bees are truly Michigan Mutts. I do, on occasion, purchase a queen or two from local queen producers that I follow and respect to experiment and see how they do in my yard.
Where do the bees overwinter?
Michigan in single deep setups
Do the bees spend the whole season in your home location? If not, where do they go and when, and for how long?
Yes, they do not leave Michigan
Do you monitor for varroa mites? How and how often?
Yes, Constantly with random drone brood checks but do mite washes every 4-6 weeks throughout the summer/fall.
Have your hives been inspected by an inspector?
No
Anything else? (e.g. describe your operation)
I sell nucs to try to keep my hobby a hobby. In the last few years, I have really enjoyed small-scale queen rearing from hives that impress me. I experiment a lot and have a lot of gratitude for all my fellow beeks that share knowledge. Sustainable to me is not having to purchase bees anymore and I haven't done that for six years. I do have a mite management plan and will not sell a nuc to someone that is going to put them in a box and hope for the best. My mite management includes brood break, drone frames, Formic Pro and OAV.

This year, I sold ten frames of overwintered bees to people that were interested in my bees and needed a powerhouse to pull wax in the spring; keepers then split into 2 boxes to manage swarm and grow apiary.  Buyers need to bring 10frame deep box setup to collect bees.   I will be selling nucs but you must be willing to wait to collect until I can confirm queen is well mated and laying.  I will have a small number of overwintered queen nucs available.   I will mite test in the spring and small batch graft from hives that I like (hygienic, well tempered and good producers).  I do replace my queens every year with OTS after the summer solstice and prefer to give my queens away rather than dispatch.  They are on a first come basis, so please send me a text if you want to get put on the list.  Deposits will be taken for nucs.  Please TEXT me at 248-225-6744 as it is the quickest way to connect with me.
