We monitor for varroa using the soap or alcohol wash method during the spring two times min during summer and in the fall. if mites are above the threshold we use the Honey Bee Coalition varroa management decision tool using natural derived acids.

Anything else? (e.g. describe your operation)
Melody Hope Apiaries is owned and operated as a part time business by Patricia and David Kettle. We Started quite by accident finding a swarm in 2019 which got us hooked. Each year we've grown in size and attend many bee conferences. I am currently enrolled in EPIQ (Education Production and Insemination of Queens) with Penn State. Our goal is to provide quality queens/Nucs that can over winter in the northeast and produce nice honey yields. During the spring and summer of 2022 I started grafting queens looking for the best traits, calmness, staying on the frame, Honey production and overwintering, We have two queens that wintered that meet the criteria and are over achievers, we will grafting from these during the 2023 season. These queens will be in Nuc's long enough to confirm a good brood pattern before sales and Nuc sales will be inspected by the Ct bee inspector approximately by the first of June.
