We sell 3 pound packages of of bees with a hybrid Italian queen. These bees are sourced from Georgia for early spring delivery to Pennsylvania. The pickup date for 2023 is April 29th. | |
What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock? | |
The colonies we breed our queens from have to meet my criteria. 1. The colony must overwinter in Northeast Pennsylvania at least one winter, most times two winters. 2. The colony must keeps it mite load down with only one mite treatment per year. 3. The colony must be workable with no ill temperament. |

Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they? | |
The queens we breed from come from a few sources. One source is the Pennsylvania State Beekeepers Queen Improvement Program. Others are sourced from organic beekeepers and feral colonies. | |
Where do the bees overwinter? | |
Northeast Pennsylvania | |
Do the bees spend the whole season in your home location? If not, where do they go and when, and for how long? | |
All our breeding colonies are keep at our home apiary in Dalton PA. | |
Do you monitor for varroa mites? How and how often? | |
We monitor for mites in all our colonies monthly, depending on the weather. Our preferred method is to perform an alcohol wash. | |
Have your hives been inspected by an inspector? | |
We are a registered queen breeder with Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Our colonies get inspected twice per year. |
