Bees for sale? | |

|
If "Other" please explain
I raise queens for my own use every May and June, and sell excess queen cells and virgins.
What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock?
Gentleness, low mite counts in late summer, productivity, queen longevity and of course winter survival.
Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they?
I started with Carniolans and Russians, have bought only one queen ( and no nucs or packages) over the past 13 years. All my queens are open mated, but we are fairly isolated on the outer Cape Cod peninsula, and I provide my neighboring beekeepers with queen stock.
Where do the bees overwinter?
In my yard here in Wellfleet.
Do the bees spend the whole season in your home location? If not, where do they go and when, and for how long?
Yes. | |
Do you monitor for varroa mites? How and how often?
In July and September. | |
Have your hives been inspected by an inspector?
Yes. I'm in the USDA APHIS Honey Bee Pests & Disease Survey.
Anything else? | |
I run two scale hives; one with about 17 years of data, which I rely on heavily to manage my bees. |
