What characteristics do you use to select your breeding stock?
1) Gentleness 2) Overwintering 3) Colony buildup 4) Honey production |
|
Where is the source of your bees and what strain(s) are they?
I bought packages from Terry Klein in 2020. These bees are hives that are still alive, or splits I have made from the original packages. They are a mixture of Italian and Carniolan strains.
Where do the bees overwinter?
They overwinter here in Saginaw County (and I have a couple of hives in Midland County).
Do the bees spend the whole season in your home location? If not, where do they go and when, and for how long?
They go nowhere: I am a homebody, and so are they.
Do you monitor for varroa mites? How and how often?
I monitor for varroa, but not in the traditional manner.
Have your hives been inspected by an inspector?
No | |
Anything else? (e.g. describe your operation)
I am a small (10 hives or so) operation, raising my own queens and making my own nucs. |
